What is Cyber Security
1. Why we care about you and cyber security in your learning space?
Cyber Security also known as information security is the practice of protecting computers, servers, networks and data from malicious or digital attacks.
We need this more than ever because of the massive digital transformation that has taken place, especially since Covid-19 shut the world down. The internet kept us connected and progressing.
Why should I care?
Educational institutions from stages as low as K-12 to the university level, have been victims of cyber attacks such as ransomware. Educational institutions have a huge role in protecting and safeguarding their data especially that of their students who are often minors and for research institutions such as universities; the intellectual property of their research. The stakeholders they serve makes the need for cybersecurity even more dire especially considering the amount of trust that is placed on schools and universities in safeguarding information.
Tech was made for good, but is not always used that way. We are reshaping people's relationships with technology, and making them more cyber resilient.
There has been an increase in ransomware campaigns targeting schools. Learn how to protect yours.
